Bibi Gul, 15, was in a car accident in Ghor province, Afghanistan three weeks ago. Severely wounded in a country with limited medical professionals, facilities, and supplies, her lower leg was amputated. In the hospital Bibi Gul was most concerned about school – this challenge to her mobility presented yet another barrier to her education. Decades of continuous war have left more than one million Afghans with a serious disability, and the country has one of the largest per capita populations of people with disabilities in the world. 2022.
Oriane Zerah is a freelance photographer represented by WostokPress agency. She was born in Paris and studied Dramatic Art and Dance, then worked for a few years in a French Polish troupe before joining the Théâtre du Soleil (1999-2001). Based in Afghanistan she photographs extensively for international NGOs documenting social issues and has exhibited her work from the region in major cities around the world.
