SINGLE MOTHER MUST PROVIDE FOR SEVEN, AFGHANISTAN

Boor Jan, 44, is a widow and mother of seven children. They live in Qadis, Afghanistan which was hard hit by the earthquake in January 2022. Compounding environmental, political, and personal crises pushed many families to sell daughters as brides in the town market, but Boor Jan collected wheat to support her family. With the drought this year she has no income. 2022.

Oriane Zerah is a freelance photographer represented by WostokPress agency. She was born in Paris and studied Dramatic Art and Dance, then worked for a few years in a French Polish troupe before joining the Théâtre du Soleil (1999-2001). Based in Afghanistan she photographs extensively for international NGOs documenting social issues and has exhibited her work from the region in major cities around the world.
